Midwifery, Pregnancy & Birth :: Managed Care
The Impact of
Managed Care on Maternity Services- A Message from Dana
"I am frequently asked why I'm not a "participating
provider" of maternity services through various HMO's and PPO's.
The short answer is this: By design, the care my clients receive is
much more involved than the typical obstetrician or hospital-based
midwife.
I simply cannot accept the limitations of time and resources that managed
care
places on its providers.
If you are in the process of choosing a maternity
care provider, I highly recommend interviewing your potential providers.
Some of these questions you should ask include how long typical
prenatal visits last, what resources are available to you, when your first
visit will be scheduled, how much of your
labor and birth he or she will actually attend, and how much access
you will have to him or her directly when you have questions or concerns.
Then take some time to review my services.
As
you prepare to bring a new life into the world, I invite you to
carefully consider the impact your choice of caregiver will have on
this incredible experience. If relationship-building, trust, respect,
and support are what you need during this critical time, Midwife and
Doula Services is truly worth the investment."
